The fifth studio album from Cowboy Junkies and their last for RCA Records, Pale Sun, Crescent Moon revolves around mystical, romantic, dark, and metaphysical aspects of male-female relationships. It was also decided to make this album louder than any previous Cowboy Junkies album and as testament to that, the first track “Crescent Moon” opens with a power chord, and the album contains a cover of a J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) track, “The Post”. Recorded over and easter weekend at Studio 306, then completed with a two-week series of overdub sessions it became one of the quickest albums the band ever created. This LP was mastered for vinyl by Peter Moore.
