Miles Davis & John Coltrane The Complete Columbia Recordings 1955-1961 reissued for the centennial year for both artists! Between 1955 and 1961, Miles Davis led a simply extraordinary small band that changed the course of jazz. This quintet/sextet primarily spotlighted tenor saxophonist John Coltrane but also included such greats as alto saxophonist Cannonball Adderley; pianists Red Garland, Bill Evans, and Wynton Kelly; bassist Paul Chambers; and drummers Philly Joe Jones and Jimmy Cobb. Originally produced by Michael Cuscuna and Bob Belden in 2000, The Complete Miles Davis Featuring John Coltrane contains 58 tracks, including such fabled Davis albums as ‘Round About Midnight, Milestones, Jazz at the Plaza, Someday My Prince Will Come, and the legendary Kind of Blue. Also included are the Davis-with-Coltrane selections that appeared on Miles and Monk at Newport, Birth Of The Blue, Basic Miles, and Circle in the Round. The set includes 18 additional tracks that hadn’t been released before 2000 and unavailable anywhere else. The original boxset won two Grammys (Best Boxset or Limited Edition Package and Best Liner Notes) and was only released on vinyl in a super limited edition via Mosaic Records. Now available widely for the first time, the 9LP includes vinyl cut directly from the original analog tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound. It features a gorgeous 60 page adaptation of the original book with stunning rare photography and all of the essays by original producer George Avakian and Kind of Blue drummer Cobb, insightful Grammy-winning notes by noted critic Bob Blumenthal, timeline and further notes by Cuscuna & Belden and the original liner notes to Kind of Blue by pianist Evans.
